February is the month for the feels! The second month of the year brings us romance, black history month, and overall LOVE.  E very year we see that through gifts, love languages, or just the vibe and feels.  * cough* Valentine’s Day *cough* Black History Month, although it should be celebrated all year long, is a representation of love; a great love and celebration to all the generations of impactful African Americans who changed the world indelibly. And we get to do this through recognition, celebration of history, and importance.  Yes, it does suck this year celebrating black history comes at a time of fighting for our rights and the rollback of DEI initiatives.   But I really want to talk about love and what I think of it.  What is love? The definition/meaning of love is yours. Does anyone know what love is?  I think we all have our own idea of what it is.  I often feel love is a double-edged sword. It brings you happiness, joy, and power. On the...

2023 | A(nother)Year of Lessons

It has been a hot minute since I sat down and typed a post out. A year to be exact. All I can say was the writer's block was real and figuring out what exactly people would want to read or the direction of my blog. A lot of ping-ponging with myself. However, it was another year of figuring things out and experiencing things to create the lessons I needed to see/learn.  Here are some lessons I learned in the year 2023, in no particular order that hit a bit differently and hopefully be a guide in how I plan to navigate the new year, maybe even for yourself: 1. Boundaries are VERY important and those who love and care for you will respect the ones you set. You are never asking for too much in having them. 2. There’s power in prayer.  3. The bare minimum can be a lot to someone else.   4. “If they want to, they will.” 5. There’s room for forgiveness in yourself and others. 6. It’s okay to have setbacks, YOURE HUMAN! 7. Embrace your naturalness. Mine this year happened to be m...

2022: Things I Have Learned This Year

Where has the year gone? I actually missed writing. It has been a year since I posted...that is crazy! Honestly,  I have just been all over the place. I started this year with goals/resolutions I was excited about but managed to not accomplish them all, which is okay, and no need to feel defeated over it. With full transparency, this year has been one of the toughest for me personally. A true rollercoaster ride if you will. I've experienced love for the first time, struggled with my mental health, fixed/ended old friendships while exploring new ones, health issues, heartbreak, and the loss of my grandmother amongst other things. However, I did manage to end the year with some strong takeaways that I think some of us can relate to. In no particular order, here are 10 things I learned this year:      1.  MENTAL HEALTH IS VERY IMPORTANT Mental health is important and needs to be taken way more seriously. If you need help, please do not be afraid to seek it. Take ca...

25 Things I Learned While Being 25!

I was inspired to make this list and post by Jamerly; a peer in High School, that has a blog called the Mane Attire. In her recent post, she made a list of 25 things she learned by 25. It made me think that I learn some things myself and not just in my 25 years of living, but just this year alone. So I wanted to share my list with you.  In no particular order, here are 25 things I learned during my 25th year:     1. YOU DON’T NEED TO HAVE IT TOGETHER We all, whether we want to admit it or not felt by the age of 25 we needed to have our lives together. A degree, family, marriage, a home, and anything else society said we should have. But actually, it’s okay if you don’t have those things and should be content with wherever you are and understand timing is everything.      2.  PUT YOUR HEALTH FIRST Mental. Physical. Emotional. All these should come first. This I spent really feeling and realizing I wasn’t putting my health first in multiple situ...

2020

...WHAT A YEAR! Exactly what a year 2020 was. This was a year I was hopeful about. I came up with a few resolutions/goals that I was feeling strongly about; some included working on myself, saying “no” more, focusing on smaller goals like being more active, and this blog. Those all started well for me and allowed me to be more relaxed and content...until it wasn’t. This is simply because other things began picking up in my life. The main thing was getting my promotion to manager at my job where I spent the first few months working in different locations developing my skills in the new role. Alongside that, a major goal I set for myself was to focus on my mental health and just working on learning to put myself first and focus on stressing a little bit less. It started so well. I spent most of my off days doing some TLC. This included treating myself, hanging with friends a bit more, and self-care routines in form of spa days. Little things that would center me and allow a peace of...

“Those twins that are black and white but don’t know they are.” This was a quote that came from my former Rugby trainer. She said this in reference to my friendship with Franknee, one of my few best friends...who just so happens to be white. Frankie has been one of my college friends for about 4 years now.  Growing up, as many of you know I’ve been to several predominantly white schools from the jump. I’m talking about schools where the percentages of African American students were low compared to any other enrolled race. So having these interracial friendships was bound to happen as nonchalant as that may sound. I won’t lie and say I haven’t had several close friendships with the other races not because I had to,  but because I chose to. To me personally, I never thought much of having these interracial friendships since it was oddly a norm to me and I just happened to be “friends” with several groups of people. One question I was asked when suggested this topic was “how are ...

10 Ways to Stay (somewhat) Busy During Quarantine

As you can tell by the title, I will share my on the bright side tips for being quarantined during COVID-19. Unfortunately, I work for an essential business and don't get to do much stay at home or quarantine activities that I see everyone doing online. But don't get me wrong, I am very thankful to still have a job where I still get to learn my new role in the company and still have a source of income. My heart goes out to everyone whose futures are uncertain. However, it is highly important (and recommended) that you stay home and/or practice social distancing whenever you can. I know we all can get bored and down during these unsure times, but it is important we try to stay positive and encourage others to do their part. With that being said, I am going to supply a list of 10 things you can do while at home, and for those who work, these are things to do on those off days...because I do. Stay Home : Obviously the best option during this time of uncertainty. It’s importan...
